HOW IN THE WORLD DOES GOD GET HIS WORK DONE???
Yes, I mean your world and mine and the world of Juvenile Justice Ministry!
If you say, “Through people.” I’d agree, unless He creates a storm to shake up some fearful followers on a lake. On the other hand, He just may be getting them ready for some important ministry, like changing their world.
God uses our spiritual gifts, abilities, and experience to get His work done, however, there is something else that answers the question. Check out these quotes from the Manual on doing God’s work, God’s way:
“By [God’s] mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask” . . . (Ephesians 3:1).
“How gracious He will be when you cry for help. As soon as He hears, He will answer (even though there is adversity and affliction—troubles). Your ears will hear . . . a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’ ” (Isaiah 30:19-21).
“You do not have, because you do not ask God” (James 4:2).
I urge, then, first of all [top priority] that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone . . . (1 Timothy 2:1).
The first century followers of Jesus “devoted themselves to prayer” (Acts 2:42) It’s no wonder they turned their world upside down. Paul, the author of much of the New Testament of the Bible, a brilliant teacher and leader wrote, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves . . . never be lacking in zeal . . . . Be faithful in prayer“ (Romans 12;10-12).
We have a war to win as we reach out to share God’s love and help to very broken kids. God has given us the necessary battle gear to win the battles day by day (Ephesians 6), but there is one piece of the gear that many miss, another action piece. After Paul describes the battle gear, he says, AND PRAY. Suiting up for battle without prayer is like launching a battle ship in a mud puddle. It’s like trying to do work on a computer without a hard drive. It’s a gun without bullets.
Those of us in Juvenile Justice Ministry are commission to do battle against a historic enemy who has come to deceive, kill and destroy the lives of kids—the god of this world, Satan and his hoards (1 Peter 5:8) . . . waring gangs or thieves that come only to steal and kill and destroy kids (John 10:0). Jesus came that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10).
WE NEED PRAYER WARRIORS WHO WILL INTERCEDE FOR US AND FOR THE KIDS WE ARE SERVING in JJM, sharing our stories, asking them to share theirs, and then sharing God’s wonderful story of love, hope, change, healing, the abundant life of John 10 and heaven for all eternity.
